Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®)

TRE® (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a simple yet powerful, body-based method that helps release accumulated stress and restore balance to the nervous system.

Developed by Dr. David Berceli, TRE® consists of seven easy-to-learn exercises that gently activate the body’s natural tremor reflex. This reflex is something all mammals share: after a stressful event, animals instinctively shake to discharge excess energy and return to regulation.

You may have seen a dog tremble after a frightening experience — this is the same built-in recovery mechanism. You can watch an example of a dog shaking to release stress here.

Humans have the same capacity — but we often suppress it due to cultural conditioning. TRE® helps us reconnect with this natural recovery mechanism.

TRE® was originally created to support people in disaster areas — such as after earthquakes, wars, or other traumatic events. Today, it is practiced worldwide in more than 30 countries, helping people from all walks of life.

What to Expect in a Session

TRE® consists of seven simple exercises that gently fatigue the leg muscles and allow the body to enter its natural tremor response.

The tremors typically last 10–15 minutes and can be stopped at any time. Afterward, you’ll rest briefly before continuing with your day.

Once learned, just 15 minutes of practice a few times per week is often enough to experience benefits.
